The Köln Concert Variations

A special tribute to Keith Jarrett’s masterpiece, played faithfully and opened up by improvisation.

“The Köln Concert Variations” is a contemporary homage to Keith Jarrett’s legendary concert of 1975.

The project is the natural evolution of Cesare Picco’s study and performance of the original score of “The Köln Concert”, commissioned by Piano City Milano for the fiftieth anniversary and performed in Milan in May 2025.

Using the official transcription of the concert as a base, Cesare Picco plays several parts of the original work faithfully, while introducing moments of personal improvisation — turning them into autonomous “arias” filtered through his own musical aesthetic.
